The general function of documentaries are to draw attention to a certain topic and explore it as a way to educate the people. Documentaries usually are lower budget, and don’t utilize much special effects or CGI because it’s more content based. People watch documentaries to learn, and to gain a deeper level of knowledge and understanding on a topic.

Are Documentary’s Objective?

Documentaries can be objective when those making the movie have an agenda to push or approach an issue with a clear stance. At times this bias in documentary and film is admitted and obvious, serving as a part of the narrative the viewer has been made aware of. Other times, documentaries assert a view or appear to arrive at a conclusion, disguising their stance as neutral. The objectiveness of a documentary is determined by the objectiveness of the person who creates it. If two people who are trying to create a historical documentary both documentaries will be different based on the creators views and points of emphasis.
